About Richard

Richard specialises in teaching and painting with acrylics, helping aspiring artists unlock their creativity and gain the skills to achieve their artistic vision in whatever style they choose to work. His relaxed and encouraging teaching style is coupled with a sound knowledge of mediums, painting techniques, colour theory and principles of composition and design. Richard has produced seven art instruction DVDs and regularly presents workshops and demonstrations around Australia. His work has featured in the ‘Artist’s Palette’, ‘Australian Artist’ and ‘International Artist’ magazines.

Materials:
1 or 2 stretched canvases.
Acrylic paints: Any colours are welcome, but essential colours are White, Paynes Grey, and the three primary colours, red, blue and yellow. Useful colours are yellow ochre, orange and purple.
Palette, water jar and fine mist water spray bottle.
Paint brushes: A selection of stiff brushes plus a liner or small round for painting finer details.
A roll of paper towel. ( Viva is recommended for its strength and resiience)

Programme:
Reference material will be supplied by the tutor.
Richard will demonstrate a simple step by step approach that includes preparation, composition, tonal values, colour and details. This approach can be applied, not only to coastal landscapes but also to any subject matter. Richard will provide feedback and individual guidance throughout the workshop.
