This is a 6 week course, running on Monday mornings. Note there will be no class on 5 October due to the Public Holiday.

Brief Course Description
Join visual artist Laura Wills, to investigate the drawing, painting and collage techniques she uses in her practice. Explore using book pages, maps and photographs to work into, experiment and create artworks. A variety of scales and mediums will be explored including wet and dry media. This course is about responding to what is in front of you, leaving a mark/ trace/ pattern as well as allowing what you are working on to be part of the work. We will explore a variety of themes and approaches.

About the Artist
Laura Wills’s Tarntanya/ Adelaide based visual arts practice is centered around collaboration, participation and local ecologies. Primarily working across the discipline of drawing, Laura is interested in creating works that are social, inclusive, and connect us to the environment. Laura currently works from Central Studios and is half of Wills Projects. Recent projects include artwork for the new Australian Post Support Centre Narrm Melbourne and public art for City of Onkaparinga. Current projects include a mural at Women’s and Children’s Hospital, new Public Art for City of Norwood, Payneham and St Peters and a community engaged art project with Prospect Council.

Course Outline
Week 1- Colouring directly into maps- experiment with materials
Week 2- Birds into maps let some of the map come through
Week 3- Layering into photos/ book pages, and prepping a large map for next week
Week 4- Drawing landscape theme into large work from week before
Week 5- Pattern, repetition and translucency into photos and maps
Week 6- Figures on map

Materials List Participants to Provide
3 or more Inks including a dark colour, any other colour and white
Coloured pencils selection
Set of watercolour/ acrylic/ gouache either is fine
Selection of brushes
Coloured pens, a selection

All maps and book pages
Some pastels
Some Brushes
Colourfix pastel and multimedia primer or equivalent, I use Arts Spectrum
We can all us this to prime the map pages before working into them with paints
