Coloured pencils are “a thing” again. Have fun with Alex creating your very own coloured pencil work of art.

Artist Statement
Alex Beckinsale is an early career artist whose work is inspired by strange narratives, folklore, and popular culture. Her practice primarily focuses on utilising both digital and traditional drawing to represent the human figure. She works both from live models and photographs as references to create her drawings. Alex spends her time between her home studio and teaching art workshops for teens and adults around South Australia.

Course Description
This 6 week course will provide you with hands on experience working with a variety of coloured pencil techniques in a fun and relaxed studio environment. The course will begin with Alex introducing you to basic drawing methods through both fun and academic exercises. Each week will build your skills in colour theory, material knowledge and experimentation with your approach to drawing:

Course Materials
Required Materials
A3 or A4 sketchbook (I recommend Derwent, Canson or Talens sketchbooks. Avoid cheaper pencils and paper, as unfortunately they don’t hold up to the techniques we’ll be using 🥲 )
2B + HB graphite pencils
Set of coloured pencils (I recommend this set: www.arttoart.net/products/lyra-rembrandt-polycolour-pencils-sets)
Hard + kneadable erasers 🎨

🟣 Week 4 – Coloured pencils on toned paper
🔵 Week 5 – Starting the final project
