Jess has been very popular at BPG, previously tutoring in drawing in pencil, charcoal and pastels. Jess is also a very skilled artist in oils.
This is a 6 week course.

About the Course:
Participants will be guided through a series of exercises focusing on realist painting techniques.
In the first three weeks of this course participants will complete informative exercises on tonal application, colour mixing (including skin tones) and edge refinement. These exercises will give participants fundamental experience before they begin their individual painting project from their chosen photographic image. This may include a still life, an interior/exterior space, or a portrait.

Oil paints(or acrylics):
Titanium white
Ultramarine Blue
Pyrrole red (or Cadmium Red)
Burnt Umber
Yellow ochre
Hansa Yellow (or Cadmium Yellow)
Burnt Sienna
Alizarin Crimson
** If you work in acrylic paints these can be used in place of oils if preferred. Please bring only those materials needed specific to working in acrylic. (e.g. no refined linseed oil needed)

Other materials:
Palette
Oil sketch paper/ canvas paper – 4 pieces approx. A4 size. (1 x A1 sheet could be cut down into A4 sheets or a pad such as Canson Figueras canvas paper pad 19cm x 25 cm, Art to Art could be purchased)
Cotton rag
Willow charcoal and graphite pencil
Ruler
Chroma Incredible Brush Cleaner or Langridge Safe clean up
2 x glass jars with lids
Refined linseed oil
Brushes- A selection of small – medium brushes (approx.4 brushes in total) Round, filbert and flat, hog hair and Synthetic.
A stretched canvas/ canvas board- to your chosen proportions. Needed week 4 of the course, discussed further week 1.
Gloves, apron, and baby wipes optional.

Note: For our first class you will need 2 sheets Canvas/ oil sketch paper, approx. A4, oil or acrylic paints- Burnt Sienna, Ultramarine Blue and Titanium white and the other materials stated above. You will not need the stretched canvas or canvas board until week 4. For week 4 you will also need to bring in an A4 photograph to work from for your individual painting project. We will discuss this further in class week 1.
