This is a 6 week course, running on Monday mornings.

About the Course:
Participants will be guided through a series of exercises focusing on realist painting techniques.
In the first three weeks of this course, participants will complete focused exercises on tonal use and application, colour mixing (including mixing skin tones) and edge refinement.
These exercises will give participants fundamental experience before they begin their individual painting project from their chosen photographic image. This may include a still life, an interior/exterior space, or a portrait. Participants are encouraged to bring in their own image to work from for weeks 4-6 but back up images will be available.
Note: This course is suitable for those who have completed Realist Painting Techniques in oils with Jess previously as new task imagery will be supplied.

Materials
Oil paints:
Titanium white
Ultramarine Blue
Pyrrole red (or Cadmium Red)
Burnt Umber
Yellow ochre
Hansa Yellow (or Cadmium Yellow)
Burnt Sienna
Alizarin Crimson

Other materials:
Palette
Oil sketch paper/ canvas paper – 4 pieces, approx. A4 size. (1 larger sheet could be cut down into 4 x A4 sheets or an A4 pad such as Canson Figueras canvas paper pad could be purchased (Art to Art)
Cotton rag
Thin willow charcoal stick and a graphite pencil ruler
Gladwrap
Chroma Incredible Brush Cleaner or Langridge Safe clean up
2 x glass jars with lids
Refined linseed oil
Brushes- A selection of small – medium hog hair and synthetic brushes (minimum of 4 brushes in total), small round, filbert and flat.
A stretched canvas/ canvas board- to your chosen proportions/ image. Needed for week 4 of the course. Will be discussed further.
Gloves, apron, baby wipes.

Note: For our first class you will need 2 sheets of A4 Canvas paper/ oil sketch paper. Burnt Sienna, Ultramarine Blue and Titanium white oil paint and the other materials stated above. You will not need the stretched canvas or canvas board until week 4. For week 4 you will also need to bring in an A4 photograph to work from for your individual painting project. We will discuss this further in class.
