What is Scratchboard?
The boards are Masonite coated with white Kaolin clay and then a layer of Indian Ink. The image is then created by scratching through the ink to the white clay using a variety of blades, needles, nibs or anything that makes a mark. Colour can be added with ink or watercolour paints.

Course Description
To introduce participants to the art of scratchboard.

Course Materials
Required Materials
– STARTER KITS CONTAINING ALL THE REQUIRED MATERIALS BELOW ARE AVAILABLE TO PURCHASE FROM KERRYN AT A COST OF $70 AS SOME ITEMS HAVE TO BE SPECIALLY ORDERED.
– Small box cutter with snap off blades or craft knife, 1 ( 5 x 7 ) scratchboard, Sheet of white transfer paper, 5 x 7 photo on paper, Clutch pencil with fiberglass brush insert, Tattoo needles and double ended holder, Black eraser, Sample scratchboard, Black ink brush pen, Cotton Gloves, Pencil case.

Course Schedule
Week 1 will be exploring the tools and transferring the image to the board
Week 2 – 5 will be producing a quality scratchboard (s)
Week 6 will be learning how to seal and frame your board
