The Art of Using Glazes – M3 with Judith Kittel

This is a 6 week course.

ARTIST STATEMENT
Judith Kittel combines her passion for art and teaching with her heart for people. She has been teaching for 26 years and has taught art classes & workshops in Adelaide as well as throughout South Australia, Interstate & New Zealand & over the years she has had the privilege to demonstrate art and painting techniques at art shows, art groups, expos & craft fairs. Judith has won a number of awards over the years & is a published artist, having had her profile and numerous artworks published in the Folk & Decorative Artist Magazine during her days before making a foray into Fine Art.

Course Description
Join with Judith to get creative learning some special techniques using Acrylics and doing 2 very different paintings using the techniques. We will cover a variety of ways of using glazes creatively, what colours are best to use and we’ll complete 2 quite different artworks using the techniques covered so you’ll learn how to do Judith’s Impressionist Messy Dabby roses and a Freehand Treescape using the techniques!

There’s lots to learn & not just about glazing ….. we’ll cover useful brush techniques, using gesso creatively & more. Then you’ll most likely be inspired to think up other ways to put the techniques into practice by getting even more creative as you go forward!
For ALL levels of experience

Course Materials
BRUSHES – Bring the usual brushes you paint with for Acrylics
a: ALSO BRING TO CLASS
1 inch taklon flat brush or one similar in size to that & if it still has a sharp chisel edge all the better
a medium sized taklon liner/rigger
a medium sized taklon round brush ….. sizes vary from brand to brand but a size 8 or 10 is suggested
1 of the cheap rough bristle brushes … about 2-3 inches wide. Can be bought at hardware and/or art store
Acrylics – BRING WHAT YOU HAVE but included below is a selection of colours below
Colours – are suggested only and your decisions of what to use will be your own choices for the course

ACRYLICS: Artist quality Acrylics or even good student quality are always best to use because they are PIGMENT RICH where as cheap paint has more binder than pigment!!
I have included in the selection of primaries below both warms and cools but as noted please bring extras in case you wish to use them.
French Ultramarine, Pthalo Blue, Napthol Crimson, Cadmium Red or Napthol Red Light or another similar warm red, Transparent Magenta, Lemon Yellow or similar cool yellow, Yellow Deep or another similar warm yellow …… also a Pthalo Green will be good to have
1 TUB WHITE GESSO – bring to class
1 TUB BLACK GESSO – bring to class
2 CANVASES – Suggested size 16×20 inch
Canvas Preparation: – Gesso using the rough bristle brush listed above APPLIED IN A SCUMBLING ACTION, CRISS CROSSING THE BRUSH SO YOU HAVE LOTS OF TEXTURED BRUSH MARKS –
COVER ONE CANVAS WITH BLACK GESSO AND ONE CANVAS WITH WHITE GESSO giving a full opaque coverage…. Eg at least 2 coats
