Rod Bax – Landscape – Gouache/Acrylic with Rod Bax
Artist Statement:
Rod Bax is an established artist who has been exhibiting professionally for over 30 years. While Rod works in a variety of mediums, he is best known for his gouache and watercolours of the wetland areas of the State’s southeast.
Rod has been a finalist in the prestigious Waterhouse Natural History Prize on numerous occasions, and his concern and compassion for the preservation of the natural world is always at the core and heart of his work.
Course Description
This is a three-week course that aims to develop students’ use of gouache as a medium.
Required Materials
For Plein Air work
Please bring your choice of sketching materials, chair/stool, thermos (for cup of tea).
Studio work: you will need:
300gsm watercolour paper (A4-A5)
gouache requirement: cobalt blue (warm blue), primary red, burnt sienna, warm yellow, black, white.
watercolour, chisel brushes and a fine point brush
Rod has a few supplies to share for those who may not wish to purchase more paint.
Course Schedule
We will plan to meet at Tusmore Park at 10am on the first Thursday (13/10/22) to develop sketches for our later studio work.
If the weather is against us on the morning of our first class – 13/10/22 – rather than go to Tusmore Park, we will meet at the BPG (St Matthew’s) Hall.
In the case that we meet at BPG (St Matthew’s) Hall on the 13/10/22, please bring:
- current project to work on (any medium)
- photographs or sketches to develop new work
- take part in gouache workshop for those who haven’t used the medium before
